Sweethearts

Two years ago my grandma told me she was done falling in love.  She loved my grandpa and when he passed away she fell in love with another cowboy who also passed away.  She figured she had loved the best and God had other purposes for her in this new season.

But that was before her high school sweetheart came to town this summer.

Fall lessons from a homeschooling mom

I am technically a homeschooling mom.  In actuality, I’m a bit of a cheater.  In our town we have a parent partnership program called Lynden Academy.  They support homeschooling families by helping with lesson planning and curriculum, and also provide classes for kids.

My sister and I have coined the phrase “customized education” which is our fancy way of saying that we are intentional each year with each kid, finding what is best for them to not only learn but to enjoy learning.  It’s not easy when you have a handful of kids because you have to weigh what is best for the family, for our marriages, for each kids’ learning style, finances, and for the other goals of the family and individuals.

“Availability is rarer than ability.”

On our first date 13 yrs. ago in September, S. and I talked about most everything under the sun (I was baffled- a man that can out-talk me?!).  One of the many subjects we talked about was being available to God.  We had many dreams and found that many of our dreams were remarkably similar.  Yet the bottom line in everything we discussed was that each of us desired to be moved by God and willing to do what He set in front of us.
